Turns out Rudy Giuliani is also on the wrong end of the DOJ grand jury
When the DOJ raided Rudy Giuliani’s home last year, it made clear that the DOJ’s Giuliani probe โ which Bill Barr had put on ice โ was back on again. But even as the DOJ has defeated Giuliani in an eight month court battle over whether his seized emails with Donald Trump were covered under attorney-client privilege, and Giuliani has publicly claimed that he unlocked his phone for the DOJ, he still hasn’t been indicted.
Given the apparent mountain of evidence against Giuliani in the longtime DOJ probe into his dirty foreign money trail, the delay in indicting him has led me to suspect that the DOJ is now waiting until it can pile on with election-related charges as well.
My suspicion appears to have been validated by this latest grand jury news. When Mike Pence’s vice presidential senior staff testified to a DOJ grand jury this past Friday, the WSJ says that they were asked numerous questions about Rudy Giuliani’s role in the fake elector scheme. This suggests that the DOJ is indeed targeting Giuliani in the fake elector scandal. This would explain why he hasn’t yet been indicted for the financial stuff, because the DOJ is presumably waiting to hit him with it all at once.
Keep in mind that when the DOJ approaches these kinds of organized criminal plots, the goal is to build overwhelmingly comprehensive criminal cases against someone like Rudy Giuliani, so that he concludes he has no chance of winning at trial, and instead decides to cut a cooperating plea deal against the crime boss (in this case Donald Trump).
If the threat of financial charges alone weren’t enough to convince Giuliani to flip, it would make logical sense that the DOJ would then decide to pile on with additional potential charges, so as to try to finally shock Giuliani into flipping. Even though Giuliani’s testimony might be gibberish, if he has documents and records that incriminate Trump, that would make the shakiness of his testimony irrelevant.
In any case, we now know that the DOJ is focusing heavily on Rudy Giuliani in a grand jury setting โ which strongly points to Rudy ending up criminally indicted on something along the lines of election fraud or seditious conspiracy. Stay tuned. Grand juries don’t hear testimony from high level witnesses for nothing.
