Turns out Mike Pence gave Jack Smith all kinds of legal ammunition against Donald Trump
Even though Mike Pence testified to Jack Smith’s grand jury several months ago, and Smith has since criminally indicted Donald Trump, we’re still waiting to find out what all Pence told Smith and his grand jury. After all, these things are not meant to become public in real time, and instead tend to come out after the fact, closer to trial.
In a sign that we are indeed getting closer to Donald Trump’s federal criminal trial in relation to January 6th, ABC News has now obtained some information about Mike Pence’s grand jury testimony against Donald Trump. And let’s just say that it’s not good for Trump.
For instance, when Pence wrote a book, he wrote that he said this to Trump: “You know, I don’t think I have the authority to change the outcome.” But Jack Smith apparently asked Pence if that comma was supposed to be in there, and Pence said that it was not. In other words, what Pence actually said to Trump was this: “You know I don’t think I have the authority to change the outcome.” In other words, this was an acknowledgment that Trump knew that Pence didn’t have the authority to change the election results. Trump’s failure to challenge Pence on this assertion is even more evidence that Trump was committing a crime when he tried to intimidate Pence into changing the election results.
This kind of thing – the placement of a comma – may sound overly clinical. But it’s the kind of thing that proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury. It’s what good prosecutors zero in on, in the name of obtaining a conviction at trial. It’s why Trump is going to prison.
