Turns out Alvin Bragg is several steps ahead of the rest of us
There was a time, back when Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and hired prosecutor Mark Pomerantz were parting ways, when most of the media and the public was insisting that Bragg had decided to let Donald Trump off the hook. But Bragg said all along that his Trump criminal probe was ongoing, and anyone who tuned out the noise and paid close attention could see that this was the case. Sure enough, Bragg ended up indicting Trump on thirty-four felonies. But now that the trial is getting underway, it turns out Bragg’s case is much bigger and broader and more serious than even those paying close attention could see.
We’re still just one witness into this trial, and it’s not even a witness that anyone was all that excited about. And yet this one witness, David Pecker, has already confessed that he and Trump conspired to rig the 2016 election by promoting fake news and suppressing real news, and exposed that the Trump election conspiracy ran so deep it involved someone who went on to become the Governor of Arkansas.
Keep in mind that while some of David Pecker’s testimony is a surprise to us, none of it is a surprise to Alvin Bragg. He subpoenaed and interviewed Pecker a long time ago. He already knew what he had in Pecker before they even put him in front of the grand jury, let alone the trial jury.
More to the point, Bragg has long known what Pecker was going to say about Michael Cohen, what Cohen is going to say about Pecker, what they’re both going to say about Karen McDougal, and so on. This testimony has all been lined up in advance, in order to deliver a fully cohesive presentation in which the witnesses all validate and corroborate each other.
We’re still just one witness into that presentation, and it’s already a bombshell. We can already start to see how some of the biggest pieces are going to fit together. It’s going to be massive, groundbreaking, transformative. And get given how many surprises we’ve seen out of the first witness already, it’s a given yet we’ll see more such surprises as the prosecution moves forward.
Except none of it will be a surprise to Alvin Bragg. The whole time everyone on TV and Twitter was busy accusing him of having let Donald Trump off the hook, Bragg was instead assembling this comprehensive masterpiece of a criminal case against Trump. Bragg, as it turns out, was ahead of us all along. TV and Twitter pundits, as usual, were way behind.
