Tucker Carlson throws Lindsey Graham under the bus as Donald Trump circles the drain
There comes a time in every failing corrupt politician’s downfall where he starts scapegoating his most loyal allies in a desperate attempt at insulating himself from his own worsening scandals. Now that Donald Trump is facing arguably the ugliest scandal of his presidency in the form of his taped confession that he was lying to the American people about the coronavirus all along, someone has to take the blame.
Based on the various reports that have surfaced today, it appears that Jared Kushner and Lindsey Graham were the two people who encouraged Donald Trump to blab to Bob Woodward, while the rest of Trump’s underlings either urged him not to do it, or didn’t know it was happening. Trump isn’t ready to throw his son-in-law under the bus quite yet (that’ll come later), so instead Trump’s mouthpiece Tucker Carlson spent his Wednesday night show berating Graham for the debacle.
Let’s be clear about a few things. First, Tucker Carlson wouldn’t have done this unless he felt it was what Donald Trump wanted him to do. Second, Carlson is essentially arguing that Trump is such a reckless toddler with such poor judgment, it’s somehow Graham’s fault for not convincing Trump to stay off the phone with Woodward.
Third, Lindsey Graham is one of Donald Trump’s most loyal allies – and one of his more powerful remaining allies, given Graham’s position as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham is also unstable and easily agitated. Is this really the road that Trump wants to go down? When failing politicians start scapegoating allies they can’t afford to lose, it rarely ends well, as Trump is about to find out.
