Donald Trump just lost Tucker Carlson
Tucker Carlson is a sniveling masochist whose nightly TV show is objectionable even by Fox News standards. If Carlson were any further up Donald Trump’s backside, he’d need to start paying rent. But guess what? In one of the surest signs yet that Trump is going down and no one who stands with him is going to have much of a future after this, Carlson just decided to throw Trump under the bus.
Tucker Carlson has written an op-ed for his site Daily Caller, which starts off with this stunner: “Donald Trump should not have been on the phone with a foreign head of state encouraging another country to investigate his political opponent, Joe Biden. Some Republicans are trying, but there’s no way to spin this as a good idea.”
From there, Carlson goes on to argue that Trump’s actions were merely horrible and wrong, and that they don’t rise to the level of impeachment. That’s predictable. Carlson knows that his far-right Trump-humping audience isn’t ready to hear that Trump should be impeached. But it’s nonetheless a huge deal that Carlson is condemning Trump for his actions toward Ukraine, because Trump is still loudly insisting that his actions toward Ukraine were fully justified.
When you’re Donald Trump and you’ve lost Tucker Carlson, it’s over for you. Sure, Sean Hannity is probably hiding under his desk right now and trying to come up with a secret new plan to magically save Trump’s hide. But the reality is that when even infamous Trump-Hummers like Carlson are trying to find a way to divorce themselves from Trump, it means Trump’s time is short.
