Trump’s JD Vance pick is teetering already
When Donald Trump picked JD Vance as his running mate, it was a phenomenally dumb move at the time. Vance didn’t gain Trump a single vote that he wasn’t already going to get anyway. And given that Vance once publicly compared Trump to Hitler, it’s not as if the two will ever have a relationship. It was just dumb, dumb, dumb, an arrogant move on the part of a cognitively vacant Trump who believed the people around him who told him he was going to win by such a big margin that he didn’t need any help from his running mate. And that was before Joe Biden dropped out.
Now that Biden has stepped aside, Trump’s Vance pick is even more of a disaster for him. Trump is now running against a charismatic rock star, yet his running mate has no star power or stage presence at all. Trump is now running against a Black woman, and his running mate is a white man who has staked himself to derangedly anti-woman stances. This is almost like trying to lose.
Trump world is now leaking that they’ve supposedly known for weeks that they’d likely end up running against Kamala Harris. But if that were true, it’s almost impossible to imagine that Trump would have picked Vance. The pick has become such a disaster that some Republicans are leaking about what a disaster the pick is. Some of them are also leaking that Vance could be replaced. I’m not sure I buy into the practicality of such a scenario, and there’s no predicting what a senile Trump will or won’t be talked into doing at this point.
But the upshot is that just days after Trump picked Vance as his running mate, it’s turned into such an unqualified disaster that people around Trump are leaking that Vance could be replaced, seemingly in an effort at making happen. That’s how bad of a pick it was. And the fact that Trump and his people never even considered game planning for a potential matchup against Kamala Harris? It shows just how asleep at the wheel Trump world is. Now let’s go beat them.
