Donald Trump is going all out with his flunky brigade. Of course, these are also people who he hopes will further his plans. One of the most ridiculous choices is Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Like Trump, Gaetz has been investigated criminally, so perhaps he’s a good fit for Trump, but many in the DOJ don’t want Gaetz. According to Bloomberg, one former official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Bloomberg: “This choice is putrid. I can’t imagine anybody with integrity would want to work for this guy as attorney general. Period. Full stop.” Trump is following his “loyalty over experience” pledge to the letter. Trump is also looking to pull the department under his control, and if Gaetz is confirmed, he will accomplish that. These departments need to remain independent for various important reasons, but Trump isn’t interested in that. He wants control-full control of the government. Thanks to everyone who voted this authoritarian back into office. He’s going to do more harm than he did last time.

Gaetz will likely oversee Trump’s revenge efforts. Trump will also have an ally in pardoning the January 6 criminals. This is very disturbing. Of course, Gaetz must get Senate approval, and that’s not necessarily a slam dunk. In addition to Gaetz, some of Trump’s worse picks include Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat who was always a questionable Democrat. Trump has named her Director of National Intelligence. She has zero experience. Gabbard doesn’t care that she has no experience. She readily accepted the position. Perhaps she thinks it’s a “learn on the job” type of role, but it is anything but. Gabbard is another conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer. She will have a difficult job, not only because she has no clue what she’s doing, but because those who do are going to clash with her. Even the decidedly conservative Washington Examiner doesn’t want Gabbard in that role.

As for Gaetz, some Republicans have spoken out against the nomination. Former Republican representative Charlie Dent appeared with Anderson Cooper and said: “This is a gobsmackingly bad nomination. I’d be less surprised, in the words of Chevy Chase, if my face was stapled to the floor.” He went on to say: “I can’t imagine any circumstance under which Gaetz would be confirmed. I suspect Donald Trump will have to withdraw this nomination.” Susan Collins, Don Bacon, and ousted speaker Kevin McCarthy predicted that Gaetz will be rejected by the Republican Senate. McCarthy said: “Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everybody knows that.” We will see what happens with Gaetz, but far and away, Trump’s worst pick is RFK, Jr. for health and human services secretary. An anti-vaxxer over HHS. In his announcement, Trump claimed that Americans have been faced with deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to public health. I guess he wants to continue that by choosing a conspiracy theorist. I have lived this long only to have a nut in charge of my healthcare. If we didn’t know Trump was incompetent before, we damned sure know it now.
