Trump world is imploding ahead of the midterms

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The midterm elections are going to be close in the House and Senate, and will come down to whichever side’s activists (that means you) are willing to put in the most work these final two weeks. But even as the midterms play out, the other big political story out there is playing out roughly as one might have expected.

Yesterday the Washington Post reported that the DOJ recovered classified documents involving China and Iran from Donald Trump’s home. This helps underscore that Trump didn’t steal harmless documents that just happened to be classified for unimportant reasons, he stole state secrets. It’s a reminder that not only will Trump be charged with serious crimes like espionage, he’ll also likely be convicted at trial. Meanwhile Trump is resorting to leaking delusional things to the media, so he can pretend he somehow has the power to decide whether the DOJ will get to search Mar-a-Lago again, even while knowledgeable people laugh at his level of desperate delusion.

Yesterday, Trump’s criminal co-conspirator Lindsey Graham filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court in the hope of getting out of having to testify to the special grand jury in the Fulton County Georgia criminal probe. Given that the Supreme Court refused to take up Trump’s appeal, it’s difficult to imagine Graham’s appeal being taken up. Graham knows this isn’t going to help him and very likely won’t even buy him any time. But Graham is up against the wall, and desperate people with no remaining realistic strategies often resort to trying things they know won’t work, because they have nothing left to try.

Trump’s hopes of a magic carpet rescue have faltered, and now Lindsey Graham’s hopes of a magic carpet rescue are about to come crashing down. Steve Bannon was just sentenced to prison – and yes, he’ll lose his appeal and indeed end up in prison. This is how these things play out. It’s a slow grind, but the villains in Trump world are indeed caught in that grind.

Meanwhile, back on the story we can control, there are seventeen days remaining in the most important midterm election cycle in U.S. history. The midterms are still highly winnable for both parties. It’ll come down to how much work you’re willing to put in. Yes, you! Pick a Democratic candidate in competitive midterm race and sign up to volunteer in person or remotely. That’s how we win.
