When an appeals court lowered the bond (but not the verdict) in Donald Trump’s civil fraud case to $175 million and gave him ten days to pay it, it was a potential victory for Trump. But there was still a question of whether he was going to be able to come up with the money.

It’s worth pointing out that we’re now halfway through that ten day period, and Trump still hasn’t posted the bond. This suggests that he still hasn’t been able to cobble together the reduced amount. Whatever attempts he’s made at raising cash, and whatever attempts he’s made at circling back to bond companies, none of it has yet gotten him anywhere – even with the bond now being less than half of what it was.

He still has five more days and he still might come up with it. We’ll see. But if he doesn’t come up with the money by the deadline, it’ll be even more humiliating for him. Wasn’t this guy supposed to be a billionaire?
