“Trump is unfit”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

My hat is off to the few journalists who still do their jobs — report the FACTS. Those precious few are hard to find today, but they’re there. One of them is the Los Angeles Times. The Times editorial board published an op-ed calling for one of the presidential candidates to withdraw. It isn’t Biden.

“One candidate is unfit, it’s not Biden.” Yes, this is the title of the LA Times’s new op-ed. Allow me if you will, to quote from it. “It’s unbelievable that the nation is spending so much time on the question of Biden’s verbal acuity, when the greatest concern ought to be that his challenger is a self-aggrandizing felon and twice-impeached election denier.”

It is good news when someone sees the forest for the trees, and the New York Times could certainly learn from this. “Trump fomented the Jan.6 insurrection, shows contempt for the rule of law and shamelessly lies in pursuit of more power.”

It is gratifying when a news organization gets it so right. And this op-ed does. “He’s an authoritarian who admires murderous dictators, wants to jail his political enemies and has publicly flirted with declaring himself a dictator on his first day back in office.”

I marvel at the beauty of this article, its freshness, and the passion behind the words. How are these types of op-eds the minority, not the majority? “If the GOP had any decency left, its members would be discussing whether to dump trump for a candidate who isn’t out to bulldoze democratic institutions in favor of autocracy.’

Thank you, dear friends; I raise a loving cup to you. You are JOURNALISTS. You spoke the truth. I happily toast you and wonder — Why can’t THIS be the way EVERYONE reports the news?

Alas, I fear it would take millions of words to ponder and answer THAT question. But someday, somebody will. Who? That will be history herself, as one day a new crop of political animals will read about these times, will read about folks like CNN and NY Times running far., abandoning us at such a crucial time, failing us while The LA Times and a few precious others spoke the truth.
