Trump is blowing it already

“Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans have only just been sworn in, but they’re already breaking their promises by failing to lower costs. It’s time to stop playing games, and start working for the American people.” This is an undeniable fact right now – and would likely be the headline of the story – but it’s also the centerpiece of the latest ad drop by House Democrats, a project headed by the House Majority Fund, on a mission of helping Democrats win back their majority in 2026. The $10 million ad campaign will take on the GOP for ignoring the costs of living – something that they’ve largely avoided even mentioning since the Nov 5 election.

They’re doing something that will make those costs significantly worse – renewing Trump’s already unpopular 2017 tax cuts and paying for it by gutting Social Security and Medicare – which is why Democrats, through a PAC associated with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, are sounding the alarm, well before Donald Trump is sworn in. This is a prime opportunity for Democrats to take care of the pocket book and kitchen table issues that they regularly get criticized for not handling – since they are tackling it with a full-scale operation that will include research and polling into how Republican policy is hurting American wallets.

Of course, the amount of money spent is irrelevant compared to what we as Democratic voters can and should be doing right now – relaying that message ourselves with as many voters “in the middle” or “on the fence” as we can find and getting them to come out in support of Democratic candidates in 2025 and 2026 and beyond. The message is simple: Republican politicians are in it for themselves and their donor friends and not you – whether or not you agree with them politically.
