Treasury Department Inspector General just blew open Donald Trump’s tax return coverup scandal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Last night, Palmer Report pointed out that Republican Senator Chuck Grassley’s decision to publicly stand against Donald Trump may have been due to the recent revelation that he’s seen a whistleblower complaint alleging that the Trump regime sought to sabotage a would-be audit into Trump’s tax returns. Now it turns out the Treasury Department Inspector General has uncovered another scandalous aspect of Trump’s tax returns.

The Inspector General is investigating how the Treasury Department handled its decision to refuse to turn over Donald Trump’s tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee, according to a new report this afternoon from the New York Times. We believe this is important for two reasons.

First, the mere fact that there’s an investigation means the Inspector General believes that corrupt and/or criminal wrongdoing may have occurred. This isn’t shocking, considering that it was plainly illegal for the Treasury Department to deny the request. But the IG’s involvement suggests that there may have been a conspiracy within the Treasury Department to illegally defy this order.

Second, this IG probe is pretty clearly aimed at Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, as he’s the one who very publicly made the decision not to hand over Donald Trump’s tax returns. This means Mnuchin is in deep trouble, at a time when he’s already feeling some heat for his involvement in Trump’s Ukraine extortion scandal. Mnuchin is now facing the very real possibility of being criminally indicted and sent to prison once Trump is ousted – which means he’ll have to think twice about every move he makes going forward.
