It was a long and winding day for Donald Trump and his Trump-Russia criminal scandal, but by the time it was over, his son had been exposed for committing treason, and he had been exposed for participating in his son’s treason. Long after the sun went down, Trump defiantly exploded in his own defense, and botched it so badly that he ended up having to delete it.

Right around the time the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr was admitting to having been a Russian spy all along, the Trump-controlled House Intelligence Committee was releasing a fraudulent report which falsely claimed Trump and his campaign had not colluded with Russia at all. Then came the news that Trump Jr received a mystery phone call just before his meeting with the Russians, and that the call was almost certainly from Donald Trump.

This left Donald Trump in situation of having been falsely exonerated by his allies even as his life was flashing before him. Late in the evening he ended up frantically tweeting “House Intelligence Committee rules that there was NO COLLUSION between the Trump Campaign and Russia. As I have been saying all along, it is all a big Hoax by the Democrats based on payments and lies. There should never have been a Special Counsel appointed. Witch Hunt!” That was actually his second try, as he initially tweeted “Special Councel” and had to delete it.

So we’ll see what comes of this. Any Trump-Russia revelations from Congress, whether they be phony exonerations from the Republicans, or real revelations from the Democrats, don’t carry the weight of law. What matters is what Special Counsel Robert Mueller has done with this information, which he’s surely known about long before today. In any case, it’s clear that Donald Trump is more frazzled than ever.
