Treason for Dummies
They really thought they could do it this way, and they weren’t going to get caught? These people weren’t doing this for some kind of espionage blooper reel? I’ve seen movies about hilariously incompetent spies who were less inept than that. I’m referring to, of course, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and their band of stunningly hapless traitors.
The Trump part, I get. We’re now seeing that Donald Trump never did have any real cunning or cleverness during his decades of real estate fraud; it was simply an industry where two-bit bully antics worked, and no one was policing the store. He brought those same tactics into political fraud, and the result is that most of his top sidekicks have been criminally convicted, even as he and his family seem earmarked for prison as well. But how could Putin’s side have been this incompetent?
I only know Maria Butina based on her methods and results. But I’m left to conclude that either she’s extraordinarily stupid, or Putin and the Kremlin failed to properly prep her in any way for what she was supposed to be doing. What kind of Russian spy tries to secretly infiltrate the NRA and the Republican Party by taking center stage at NRA events and taking selfies with familiar faces from the Republican Party?
Putin used to run the KGB, back when the KGB was good at this kind of thing. He’s succeeded in murdering a lot people, and he’s still in power. Now he’s relying on a plot to take over the United States, and it involves the world’s worst spy posting selfies on Instagram?
You have to wonder if Putin wasn’t putting any real effort into this plot because he didn’t really expect it to result in Donald Trump illegitimately winning. Maybe he just wanted to keep the election close, so Trump could claim afterward that it was rigged against him, and his supporters would buy into it, even as he launched Trump TV in America, and Trump Tower in Moscow.
Maybe Vladimir Putin wasn’t really looking for Donald Trump to win, in which case none of this would likely have ever been fully investigated, which would have meant that the conspirators could have been as dumb and sloppy about it as they wanted. That’s all I can figure at this point. The reality is that every one of you reading this could have come up with a plan to rig the election that would have been less likely to get exposed than the one Putin and Trump used. And that just doesn’t make sense.
