Top RNC lawyer quits
Donald Trump’s attempted takeover of the Republican National Committee has been going pretty poorly for him and his family (negative headlines, scandals), and even more poorly for the RNC itself. The Trumps have begun to gut it in terms of personnel and 2024 infrastructure, even as the new RNC co-chair named “Trump” is promising to steer the funds to the candidate also named “Trump.”
Once you start forcing people out in a corrupt hostile takeover, it can become a cascading problem. There are some people you need to keep around even as you get rid of others, but the people you need end up bailing in protest of what you’re doing.
Sure enough, a top RNC lawyer has now quit over Donald Trump. Keep in mind that if you’re a lawyer for the Republican National Committee, you’re willing to overlook at lot of ugliness in general. But what Trump is doing to the RNC is too ugly even for this RNC lawyer.
Not only is Trump’s decision to gut the RNC a foolish and shortsighted one that won’t help him, it’s also likely to hurt Republican Party candidates up and down the ballot in November. And for all we know, this may be just the start of the debacle.
