Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
This is, rather remarkably, my final morning article of 2023. By this time tomorrow it’ll be a new year, an election year, and the most important election year we’ve ever faced. We seem to end up saying that every time around. But we all know why this one is so much more important than ever. So what do we do about it?
There’s an old adage that says to start at the beginning. And the first election of 2024 doesn’t come in November. It comes in February. I’m talking about the special election to replace George Santos. It’s a competitive district and it’ll be a close race. And while it’s getting surprisingly little national media attention thus far, it’s a very important race.
There’s a House seat up for grabs at a time when the House Republican majority is as tiny as could be. If the Democrats win this special election in February, then depending on what happens as 2024 plays out, they might even end up taking the majority before we get to November. Regardless of that, this special election is going to serve as a measuring stick for where things are heading into November.
If we help the Democrats win this special election in February, it’ll make it harder for the media to hype the self-defeating “Democrats are doomed in 2024” narrative. For that reason alone we should all want to dive in and win this special election, and win it by as many points as possible. We’ve shut George Santos up, now let’s shut the media up.
The Democratic candidate in this House special election is Tom Suozzi. Do what you can to help him. If you can send him five bucks, do it. If you can sign up to do one online volunteer shift, do it. Or just follow him on your favorite social media platform and share his posts.
Keep in mind that there are many thousands of you reading this article. Think about the small contribution you can make to Tom Suozzi’s campaign. Now multiply that by many thousands. That’s the power that you collectively have. Let’s use that power to win this special election on February 13th, and then use that victory as a launching pad for winning again in November of 2024. Remember, 2024 literally starts tomorrow.
