Tom Emmer’s nomination for Speaker has immediately fallen into disarray – and now Donald Trump is making it even worse
As recently as yesterday, Donald Trump was vowing to avoid meddling in the latest race for Speaker of the House. But now that House Republicans have nominated Tom Emmer, and more than two dozen far right House Republicans are coming out against Emmer, Trump is seizing the opportunity to take credit for Emmer’s potential downfall.
Trump is over on Truth Social accusing Tom Emmer of being a “globalist RINO” and insisting that Emmer “never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA.” Well okay, some of those words go together.
At this point it feels like Trump’s handlers have concluded that Emmer’s nomination is doomed anyway, so they’ve put up this social media post so that the media will give Trump credit for it when Emmer is defeated. Trump has a long history of taking late stances in races that have already been decided, so he can then look powerful for having supposedly decided the race.
In any case let’s remember that this is the same Donald Trump who spent yesterday getting lost on a tangent over the spelling of a two letter word and telling his own supporters not to bother voting in 2024. This guy isn’t pulling any strings in the Speaker of the House race. He’s senile. But his babysitters do seem to want him to get credit for Emmer’s downfall.
