Today’s the big day

Today’s the big day when control of the Senate will be decided by a pair of runoff races in Georgia. I expect it to be a close race, with the Democrats having perhaps a 50-50 chance at prevailing. That’s not being pessimistic; in fact if I’d told you a year ago that the Democrats would end up having 50-50 odds of flipping both Senate seats in Georgia, you’d have told me I was being overly optimistic.
Here’s something to keep in mind: if it’s close, there’s a good chance we won’t know the results tonight. We all know the drill by now. We’ll have to fight for every last vote to be counted, including mail-in votes and absentee votes, even as the other side tries to get votes thrown out and promotes phony conspiracies.
Tweet of the day, from legendary comedian George Wallace: “GEORGIA!!! Don’t mail that ballot at this point. Put that magnificent shit into a dropbox. Mask up if you’re goin’ in person. Simply Warnock on the door of the polling place, then vote your damn Ossoff.”
