Tim Walz delivers soaring introductory speech, zings Donald Trump something fierce
Democratic 2024 nominee Kamala Harris appeared on stage today with her running mate Tim Walz this evening in Philadelphia, and Walz wasted no time introducing himself to the American people.
Tim Walz talked about the things he strongly believes in, from giving everyone an opportunity, to common sense gun control laws, to respecting everyone’s basic rights. Walz’s view on what other people might be doing with their medical decisions or in their bedrooms: “There’s a golden rule of mind your own damn business!”
Walz also turned his attention to Donald Trump, listing off all the extremist things he’ll do, from Project 2025, to banning abortion, to cutting Social Security and Medicare. Walz also stressed that the crime rate was up under Donald Trump, and “that’s not even counting the crimes he committed!”
Notably, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz both made a point of steering the crowd away from scattered “lock him up” chants directed at Trump. This is very smart. Trump is going to prison if he loses this election, but that’s because he’s a criminal. The President doesn’t send people to prison. Judges empowered by juries do. “Lock him up” and “Trump is going to prison” are our slogan, they’re not Harris’ slogan or Walz’s slogan.
It’s clear that Harris and Walz are going to spell out what they stand for and what they intend to deliver, while also hitting Donald Trump as hard as possible, but letting it be Trump’s problem that he’s on his way to prison if he loses.
