This Republican House is even more of a disaster than you thought

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For much of 2022, we heard a whole lot of rhetoric about what Republicans would do if they retook Congress. At the time, they thought they’d almost certainly take both the House and Senate back, with a comfortable majority in the House.

They boasted that they’d spend their time not just endlessly investigating Hunter Biden and pretty much any prominent Democrat they could think of for no purpose other than to investigate, while causing shutdown after shutdown, and further push for a national abortion ban and an opportunity to sunset any legislation they don’t like (especially gutting Medicare and Social Security for good.) That last part of the plan was perhaps a big reason why they didn’t do so well in the midterms.

What they did succeed in once they just barely retook the House – was once again revealing themselves to be a bunch of sniveling, anti-American cowards who couldn’t even deliver to their own voters. If you think this is the most buffoonish House of Reps in history – you actually might be onto something. In all of 2023, the Republican House passed a total of…just 20 bills. Yes, you read that right.

To put it in perspective, it’s more than three times less efficient than the Republican-led Congress that obstructed President Obama at every turn. They get involved in government only so they can disrupt it as much as possible while looking for future work as a lobbyist – and now we have proof, as we go into a year when they’re likely to be even less productive. Let’s retake the House in 2024 and get back to working for the American people.
