This might be Donald Trump’s most insane court filing yet
It appears the garbage dump is open for business. Just don’t get too close, or you might gag from the ongoing smell of bullshit. I refer to the junk legal filing, otherwise known as Trump’s last stand, to try to get presidential immunity from the U.S. Court of Appeals.
People are saying they have never, ever read something so ludicrous. This filing does indeed stink to high heaven. The 41-page filing has a great deal of word salad in it. One of them is the same argument Trump’s lawyers have been using that a “long history of Presidents” were never charged with crimes and that all of these Presidents “enjoyed immunity” from BEING charged.
These words produced many chortles from great legal minds. In fact, one does not have to be a lawyer at all to see the fallacy here. No other President started an insurrection. So, how could they be charged with something they had not done?
Furthermore, former President Nixon was not immune from prosecution. If he HAD BEEN immune, why the HELL would former President Ford have needed to pardon him? Trump’s lawyers surely did NOT do their research on this one.
Another argument they made is that prosecuting Trump could lead to a “chain reaction” where all of a sudden, other former presidents are charged as well. Charged for WHAT? Are these lawyers speaking of the kindly Jimmy Carter? He has not broken the law. Do they mean Bush or Obama? The fact is this argument is absurd, and no intelligent mind could think otherwise.
The lawyers for Trump also claimed that since Trump was acquitted in the impeachment trials, he could not be tried in any criminal case. REALLY? Does anyone remember many Republicans voting NOT to impeach and citing the fact that we have a court system that could always charge Trump if found to have broken the law?
Were all those Republicans wrong? According to Trump’s Keystone legal team, yes, yes, they were. So, to sum up — this rotten, stinking heap of garbage is an embarrassment to the legal profession.
One knows Trump’s legal team must be out of ideas if they’re resorting to THIS. In the meantime, this filing confirms what everyone already knew — if immunity is what they’re after,Trump and his legal team will be very disappointed puppies indeed.
