This Jim Jordan debacle is playing right into Democrats’ hands

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As it’s looking more likely that Rep. Jim Jordan could still possibly be elected House speaker on Wednesday, it’s easy for some on our side to feel defeatist that we’ve downgraded not just from Nancy Pelosi to a clown like Kevin McCarthy and now to an insurrectionist maniac like Jordan, but either one of two things will happen pretty soon – that Jordan will be elected speaker, or the Republican game of musical chairs will keep going and tarnish the party’s own reputation even further.

Neither situation is a particularly great one for Republicans going into 2024 – and in some ways, the former might be better than the latter, as it would force Republicans in moderate districts to explain why they voted for someone like Jordan for speaker.

As the House prepares to vote, we’re seeing familiar faces come out of the woodwork to denounce the candidacy of Jordan as speaker, among them is Michael Fanone, the Capitol police officer who was injured during the Jan 6 insurrection, saying that Jordan has no business being second in line for the presidency, which he would be if elected.

We’ve already heard a lot about Jan 6 over the last year, but it’s fair to expect that even more will come out about Jordan’s already long list of embarrassing scandals from here on out – and another solid reminder that the GOP doesn’t particularly care for democracy. Let’s do everything we can to make sure they lose, and lose overwhelmingly in 2024.
