Because the mainstream media has understandably been heavily focused this past week on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the potential for war in Europe, we’ve seen remarkably little news emerge about the January 6th Committee or any other investigation into Donald Trump. This has led some to ask if perhaps Putin is doing all of this just to distract from Trump’s scandals. He’s not. Putin is betting his legacy, his fortunes, and perhaps even his life on being able to pull off whatever it is he’s trying to make happen with Ukraine. There’s no chance he’d do this just to run a bit of PR interference for Trump, even if Trump were still of any value to Putin, which he’s not.

That said, Putin’s antics have just happened to push the Trump scandals and investigations off the front page for awhile. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Keep in mind that even as the January 6th Committee has been working its way through closed door interviews to amass its case against Trump, and the Department of Justice has been doing whatever it’s been doing behind the scenes, the biggest problem has been the public’s impatience. When will the committee begin holding public hearings? When will we finally see proof that the DOJ really is working on taking Trump down? When will New York indict and arrest Trump?

These questions have always been irrelevant, in the sense that it’s less important when these things happen, and more important that they be done right when they do happen. But in this reality show-style news era, the public wants everything to happen instantly, and bitterly turns against investigators who dare to take the time to do their jobs correctly.

But now, thanks to Putin’s antics, those investigating Trump aren’t having to deal with the hordes of people yelling “are we there yet” every five minutes. The January 6th Committee hasn’t even had to feed any tidbits to the media just to keep the public sated of late, though we suspect that’ll resume happening before too much longer.

The key is that, even without the headlines, these Trump investigations are still moving along behind the scenes at the exact same pace they were before Putin set his remaining hair on fire and demanded the spotlight. Nothing at all has changed about these ongoing probes. It’s only the audience who has taken the past week off from these probes. And maybe that’s not a bad thing. It gives investigators just a bit of breathing room in terms of getting this right without having to contend with the public’s ADHD-era impatience.
