This is what we’ve been waiting for
If you watched Donald Trump run the most offensive political campaign in modern history and you fought against him, this moment is for you. If you watched Trump treasonously conspire with Russia to rig the election in his favor and you tried to help expose him for it, this moment is for you. If you’ve spent the past two-plus years pushing back against every horrible thing he’s done in office, your moment has finally arrived.
Donald Trump is being impeached. Less than an hour from now, live televised impeachment hearings will commence. Before the morning is over, the first witness from inside Trump’s own administration will begin testifying about the crimes that Trump committed. Before the end of the day, another witness will do the same. To give you an idea of how much public interest is expected for these hearings, the major networks are preempting the soap operas so they can air the hearings live.
We’ll see where this goes. Bill Clinton was impeached and survived it, because it was a witch hunt, and he was popular to begin with. Richard Nixon faced televised quasi-impeachment hearings and he didn’t survive them, both because he was plainly guilty and because by that time his criminal scandals had begun to make him unpopular. Donald Trump is ten times more guilty than Nixon, and his poll numbers are sliding toward Nixon territory.
This will go wherever it goes. What matters for now is that the Resistance has scratched and clawed and held this country together long enough for the impeachment cavalry to arrive. Now comes the truly hard work, as we have to convince the average American out there to care enough about Donald Trump’s villainy to speak up and demand his downfall. But this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
