This is the part where they all take each other down
Right now Bill Barr is sitting in Italy, wondering whether he should even come home. The news just broke that he’s over there because he’s trying to conspire with foreign nations in the name of cleaning up Donald Trump’s various scandals. The news also just broke that Trump asked the Prime Minister of Australia to conspire with Barr. In other words, Barr is screwed beyond words. He’s not the only one.
Thus far today we’ve seen the House impeachment inquiry subpoena Rudy Giuliani in a manner that could bring about Rudy’s downfall. We’ve also seen the White House admit today that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was in on Donald Trump’s phone call to Ukraine, meaning Pompeo has significant criminal exposure in this scandal.
This is all playing out in real time, and suddenly we’re looking at a situation where Bill Barr, Rudy Giuliani, and Mike Pompeo are all facing the very real prospect of going to prison once Donald Trump is ousted – and at the rate this impeachment process is unfolding, Trump could be ousted at any time. In addition, it’s not just these three guys. We’re going to see more of Trump’s top people criminally implicated as this scandal continues to quickly spiral out of control.
Some of Donald Trump’s people will naively sit back and bet their future and their freedom on a Trump pardon. But that’s looking like an awfully shaky bet at this point. It’ll only take one of Trump’s top people to come forward and sell everyone else out, in the hope of getting immunity in exchange. These guys all know each other, and they know that the others can’t be trusted. Now it’s just a question of which one of them decides to jump on the opportunity to take the others down first.
