This is not what Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump wanted to hear from Judge Engoron
Judge Engoron has ruled that Ivanka Trump must testify against Donald Trump in this trial. Remember, this always had a 100% chance of happening. There’s no such thing as magically avoiding a jury subpoena. She was always going to have to testify. You can run out the clock on a congressional subpoena, but not a jury subpoena. The courts handle those two things entirely differently.
And no, she can’t just plead the fifth. The courts have already ruled that she has no liability in this matter due to the statute of limitations. So there is no fifth amendment here.
Nor can she just say “I don’t recall” in response to every question. That’s how you go down for obstruction. Nor can she just lie. That’s how you go down for perjury. There are no magic wands. She was always going to have to give up Donald in this trial. Let the games begin.
