This is not acceptable

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Picture this: You are walking down a busy city street, when you see something. What you see is a helpless person being mugged by a group of criminals. You look around at the people near you. Nobody is doing anything to help. Many of them , however, being the digital zombies that they are, hold up cell phones to record this stunning event.

Quickly it dawns on you that nobody is going to do anything. What would you do? Step in? Call the police? Shout for help? I think — no, I KNOW, that Palmer Report readers would do something.

I ask this question because, in a sense, there is a mugging going on right now, a gruesome attack. And we must do something.

Roe. This is one of the issues that will help us win this year. On Tuesday, the Texas 5th Circuit Court of Appeals made a ruling. You may not have heard about it. You should have. Were it up to me, this decision would be on the cover of every newspaper and the headline on EVERY political website.

The Texas 5th Circuit has ruled that hospitals and physicians are “not required by federal law to perform abortions under emergency circumstances.” Congratulations, Texas, you’ve finally done it. You’ve reentered the dark ages. This horrible decision IS an assault on women — all women.

And the Republican men of Texas — not only do nothing, they stand by and glower. More, they say. More rules, more forms of control. More, more, more. This is not acceptable.

Try to imagine. Try to imagine a woman who needs an abortion to sustain life — and gets turned down. Not a problem, says the 5th circuit. The U.S. Health and Human Services Department had put out guidance for emergency medical treatment. In this guidance, they said:

That emergency treatment treatment “protects providers when offering legally-mandated, life-or health-saving abortion services in emergency situations.” After this judgment was released, Texas sued the federal government.

In their arguments, they said President Biden was “attempting to compel health-care providers to perform abortions.” The judges who made this decision consist of three people, two of whom had been appointed by Donald John Trump.

Elections have consequences. Make no mistake, all that has happened with Roe — it’s ALL on Trump and his network of crazed judges. This is not acceptable. Treating women as property — as beings without brains or autonomy — is not acceptable.

Attempting to control women as if we were chattel — this is not acceptable. Viewing women with contempt, trying to control their lives — this is unacceptable. Dogs now have more rights than women in Texas and many other states.

So, as with the imaginary mugging I started this article with, it’s up to us to do something. Because we are not them. We do NOT stand by when a crisis is happening. We attempt to save people in need and individuals in danger. That is the acceptable choice, the right choice and the only choice.
