This is like Christmas in July
When Donald Trump picked Mike Pence as his running mate eight years ago, I wrote at the time that it was a fairly savvy move on Trump’s part. It helped Trump with the evangelical vote back when he was still struggling to win them over. And while Pence has always been a depraved extremist, he’s always had a way of coming off like a reasonable moderate in the eyes of those who don’t know better.
So when I say that Donald Trump’s decision to pick JD Vance as his 2024 running mate is an absolute disaster for him, I mean it. There’s no upside for Trump at all. He doesn’t need the evangelical vote this time. He needs help with moderates – and Vance hurts him with moderates. Nor does Vance help him with any swing state (Trump was going to win Ohio already) or any voting demographic.
Worse for Trump, Vance has a fairly recent history of viciously attacking Trump. Vance compared Trump to “Hitler” a few years ago. Vance has called Trump an “asshole.” These quotes are about to become a key component of the Biden and DNC ads against Trump.
Vance also likes to put his extremist views out there for all to see. He’s on record as saying that abortion should be outlawed in all circumstances. He’s even said that women should stay in violent relationships. He’s not just an extremist, he’s psychotic – and he’s out in the open about it. Vance’s extremist statements will also be a centerpiece of the Biden-DNC ads against Trump.
In fact JD Vance is such an astoundingly dumb pick by Trump, this is starting to feel like Christmas in July for us. We get to use this extremist monster against Trump for the next four months? I’m excited. Bring it on. Now let’s go win this. Donate
