Republican incompetence is once again on display for the world to see. They rushed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, but now, they’ve gone silent. The New York Times believes they are stalling because “a trial will likely be over before it begins-or yield a quick acquittal.” There shouldn’t be a trial at all. Mayorkas has done nothing wrong. One man cannot control what’s happening at the border, even though President Biden tried with the bipartisan bill that would have given him authority to shut the border down. Republicans don’t really care about the border; they just want the issue left alone so that Donald Trump has something to campaign on. Clearly, Republicans are serving Donald Trump instead of their constituents.

NYT pointed out that Republicans are likely trying the find the “least embarrassing” way to finish what they started. That’s not going to happen because they never had any reason to impeach Mayorkas in the first place. Being all consumed by their “tit-for-tat” mentality, they cannot see the proverbial forest for the trees. This situation merely elevates their stupidity and their drive to do anything that they think will please Donald Trump. Yes, Trump won the primary, but he’s not going any farther than that. What will they do then? Overall, Republicans are not doing as well as they should have.

As Palmer Report mentioned earlier, Ted Cruz has a serious challenger in Colin Allred, who easily won the Democratic nomination with 59% of the vote. Not only are Cruz and Allred neck-and-neck according to Newsweek, but Allred has also outraised Cruz. Newsweek reported that Allred has already raised more than Cruz in the previous two quarters. These numbers harken back to when Cruz barely bested Beto O’Rourke by a mere 2.6 points. It sounds as if Allred will do even better. During his victory speech, Allred said: “It’s time we had a senator who will bring us together. I’ll be that senator. We’ve had enough of ‘me’ guys. We are much more powerful than ‘me.’ We can do this together.” This is the type of message that is driving people to vote for change. Cruz has been in the Senate for 12 years and has accomplished nothing. A Democrat has not won Texas since 1988. Maybe that will change with Colin Allred. God knows we need many changes in Washington, with Cruz at the top of the list.

Nikki Haley has bowed out, after winning only one state (Vermont) in the primaries. Alabama’s primary in the second district is now between two Democrats, so that seat will go to Democrats, and Adam Schiff has all but wrapped up the Senate seat previously held by Diane Feinstein. Things are looking good for Democrats and for America. Democrats may not be perfect, but they at least try to fashion legislation that benefits their constituents instead of themselves. Haley carried college-educated voters and did well with moderates. Neither bodes well for Donald Trump. If voters pay attention to President Biden’s State of the Union address, there is no contest. Biden is the best choice for the country.
