This is beyond weird

The GOP has probably experienced one of their most unusual reversals of fortune in just a matter of weeks – even if itโ€™s solely from a perspective of optics. If they were a political party with a modicum of decency that actually cared even remotely as much about their country as they like to claim they do, I might even feel a little bit sorry for them. Of course, they donโ€™t – something they openly demonstrate on a regular basis.

Their issues go way beyond Donald Trump, the partyโ€™s de facto leader, looking like a tired old candidate that has absolutely nothing new to say – and actively attacking more popular governors in his whole party. The bigger problem is that Democrats have succinctly managed to epitomize the entire party as โ€œweird.โ€ The Republican Party, is of course, weird – and has shown few serious attempts to allay the fears of voters in the middle.

When Vice President Harris announced Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday morning, a name reportedly in contention for weeks, it would seem the thing for a party not accused of being weird would try a legitimate line of attack about Walzโ€™s policies that might concern anyone who sees themselves as a centrist. Instead, a bunch of conservatives on Twitter tried to get #TamponTim trending – a reference to Gov. Walz including them in his school budget proposal.

Trumpers arenโ€™t just weird – theyโ€™re raging at anything they donโ€™t understand – and as Iโ€™ve said before in Palmer Report, the base is so rife with misogyny that they couldnโ€™t pass this up, even if the insult would backfire and just make them look even more weird and ridiculous. Weโ€™ve got a winning message, and a winning ticket in Harris-Walz. Letโ€™s get them both elected on Nov 5 and give them a Democratic House and Senate to govern with.
