This is a disaster. Here’s how we fix it.
Throughout 2021, and particularly over the past few months, far too many liberal pundits and liberal activists merely spent their time whining about the Democrats to anyone who would listen – and predictably, their self-sabotaging rhetoric ended up suppressing the vote in Tuesday’s elections. I was hoping that Tuesday’s ugly results would serve as a wake up call for some of these defeatists, once they finally saw the consequences of their toxic rhetoric. Sadly, it looks like I was being naive.
On Wednesday, the most popular topic among liberal activists on Twitter (to the point that it was trending for much of the day) was the notion that the Democrats should replace Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer with Amy Klobuchar. As highly as anyone might think of Klobuchar (and I think she’s fantastic), this is one of the dumbest ideas of all time. We’re really supposed to believe that if Klobuchar became Majority Leader, Manchin and Sinema would just magically fall in line overnight for the heck of it? Nothing works that way. Anyone whose brain is functioning properly understands that.
And yet nonetheless here we are. The folks on our side who spend all their time inaccurately bashing the Democrats, while floating idiotic magic wand solutions of their own, and then bashing the Democrats even further for not using their magic wand solutions, are here to stay. Instead of being forced by Tuesday’s needless loss to see the error of their ways, they’re using the loss they created as an excuse to double down on their toxically harmful behavior.
These idiots aren’t going away. And most liberal media pundits (on TV and online), with some notable exceptions, are only interested in pandering to these idiots. This is a disaster – and we can no longer afford to simply ignore it, or tell ourselves that the hordes of defeatists on our side are merely “bots” or whatever the popular excuse is for pretending this isn’t really happening.
The only thing we can do over the next year is to start holding these types accountable. Popular pundits, who spread toxic defeatism while bashing the Democrats for not carrying out their silly magic wand solutions, need to be called out at every turn. We need to work around these pundits in order to convince the most toxically negative of liberal “activists” to see the error of their ways. In short, we need to take the fight to them, in order to get them out of our way so we can effectively take the fight to the Republicans.
This isn’t going to be easy. But the toxic defeatists, and the fraudulent pundits who pander to them, just cost us an entire state and nearly cost us two states. If we don’t do something to push back against them, we’re in danger of losing the entire nation a year from now. It’s not enough for us to fight the enemy. We first have to get the losers off the stage who are making it so hard for us to fight the enemy. Everything now depends on it.
