This entire administration needs to be shut down
Let’s talk about election interference, which is one of Donald Trump’s favorite catch phrases. Unfortunately, it has never been and will never be true-until now. The Trump administration is guilty of election interference, and they may have made a big mistake in interfering New Jersey Mayor Ras Baraka’s run for governor of his state.
This past Friday, Mayor Baraka was at a new immigration detention center where he planned to meet with Congressional reps Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and LaMonica Iver. He did not try to enter the building or do anything even remotely unlawful. Of all the people present, the only one detained was Mayor Baraka. When asked why Mayor Baraka was detained, the incomparably incompetent Alina Habba’s claims left me speechless. Habba is the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, a role for which she is not even slightly qualified to hold. Habba claimed: “The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention Center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into Custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”
There is so much wrong with Habba’s statements. First, they were posted on social media. A professional would have given information directly to the press. Second, he was never in the center, and third, Habba’s claim that “no one is above the law” must apply to everyone except Donald Trump. What a crock. Habba wanted Baraka to be arrested. None of the Congressmembers or citizens were detained, arrested, or otherwise removed from the property, though the Trump administration has threated to arrest the members of Congress who were present. Given that Baraka is running for governor as a Democrat, at the risk of sounding like Trump, they are merely interfering with his election chances by putting an arrest on his record. You’re not fooling anyone; we see you.
Rob Menendez and LaMonica Iver are now speaking out about what really happened. Menendez and Iver appeared on MSNBC. Menendez detailed visits to facilities by Congress as part of their oversight duties. Because this facility is new, it was important to carry out their duties. Menendez said that they had already been at the facility for over an hour and a half, they were granted access, and ICE New Jersey knew they were there. Menendez said that “the administration’s characterization” of the event “is completely fabricated.”
What a shock to hear this about the most dishonest, corrupt, and evil administration in modern history. Menendez further shared that Mayor Baraka was outside, waiting for them to come out and was not trying to get in. Menendez said this is yet another mischaracterization from the corrupt Trump administration. Iver pointed out that they were there to do their jobs, which the people expect them to do. That’s a novel idea, one from which the Trump administration can learn. Look, Democrats aren’t perfect, but they’re a hell of a lot closer than these clowns. Do not sit home for the midterms; go and out vote in some checks and balances for this evil administration.
