This doesn’t even make sense

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump appears to have concluded that if America remains locked down until the election, the economic impact is going to be so bad, he’ll lose the election no matter what – and so instead he’s betting all his chips on the slim hope that reopening the country will somehow magically work out well.

To that end, the Trump regime announced yesterday that it was “winding down” the coronavirus task force. And why not? If Donald Trump is now going to pretend that the coronavirus threat is abating, he might as well get rid of the task force so he can show the public that there doesn’t even need to be a task force anymore. The trouble is, this only makes sense in Trump’s delusional mind. After he received significant pushback over this, he tried to explain it away today:

The White House CoronaVirus Task Force, headed by Vice President Mike Pence, has done a fantastic job of bringing together vast highly complex resources that have set a high standard for others to follow in the future. Ventilators, which were few & in bad shape, are now being produced in the thousands, and we have many to spare. We are helping other countries which are desperate for them. Likewise, after having been left little, we are now doing more testing than all other countries combined, and with superior tests. Face masks & shields gloves, gowns etc. are now plentiful. The last four Governors teleconference calls have been conclusively strong. Because of this success, the Task Force will continue on indefinitely with its focus on SAFETY & OPENING UP OUR COUNTRY AGAIN. We may add or subtract people to it, as appropriate. The Task Force will also be very focused on Vaccines & Therapeutics. Thank you!

This doesn’t even make sense. Now that the public has largely rejected his stunt of trying to prove that the threat has diminished by killing off the task force, he’s backtracking by insisting that the task force will stick around, but now it’s going to focus on how it’s safe to reopen things? This is like telling the fire department that it’s no longer supposed to fight any fires, and it’ll instead exist just to tell people that fires somehow don’t exist anymore.

The reality is that Donald Trump has never had any idea what anyone on the coronavirus task force even does, beyond the two hours a day he was forcing them to participate in his sham briefings. This tweet suggests that Trump doesn’t much care what the scientists on his task force do, so long as they don’t do it in public, so he can pretend the “reopening” is somehow going well.
