This Aaron Rodgers COVID vaccine debacle just keeps getting uglier
Aaron Rodgers should be fired. He most likely will not be, of course. But this person has behaved with such callous disregard for his fellow humans that I believe he SHOULD be.
This story matters. It matters because Rodgers, a superstar athlete, has contracted Covid. And it turns out he lied about being vaccinated. Of course, some are defending him with the most bizarre reasoning one could imagine. Here are a few of the lines of defense.
‘He said immunized, not vaccinated.”
This is a non-argument.
“He could have been referring to another vaccine.”
This argument represents the stupid quite well. What vaccine could he have been referring to? The polio vaccine, perhaps? Maybe some mystical vaccine we have not yet heard of?
Now Rodgers has made things even worse. Instead of taking responsibility for his lies, Rodgers has blamed the whole thing on — woke people. I kid you not.
Sigh. This is a myth, just like Critical Race Theory being taught in elementary school is a myth. It’s bullshit, people. But this is what people who refuse culpability do. “I realize I’m in the crosshairs of the woke mob right now,” the liar said. Calling the backlash a “cancel culture casket,” Rodgers proceeded to say he was allergic to the vaccines.
Rodgers also let it rip about NFL protocols saying in his not-so-humble opinion many of them were not, in fact, based on science. My view on all this? Cancel him. Yes, I said it.
Not for not being vaccinated. Not for even lying about it. No. Cancel him for his sullen, unappreciative disregard for everyone around him. Cancel him for the lack of respect with which he has treated his fellow human. Cancel him until he takes some element of responsibility. Let him know that in this country, safety and the lives of EVERYONE matter — not just arrogant and wealthy athletes.
I hope everyone tweets out THEIR disgust with this person’s non-apology. Tell him to shove it. Tell the league you want to see consequences. Threaten to boycott watching of any game he plays in. This man needs to find some humility, although the way he is acting now this does not appear to be happening anytime soon.
