Things just took an ugly turn against Rudy Giuliani
Based on what’s been laid out in the media alone, the Feds at the SDNY already have more than enough to indict and arrest Rudy Giuliani. But if they truly want the kind of slam dunk case that might prompt Giuliani to flip on Donald Trump, the key is to get Rudy’s recently arrested associates Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman to flip on Rudy.
Come to think of it, only one of them needs to flip. Even as Lev Parnas tries invoking executive privilege in court, in a clear cut effort to make his criminal trial Donald Trump’s problem, the Feds are making moves of their own. The SDNY has subpoenaed Igor Fruman’s own brother to testify against him, according to the New York Daily News. Why is this important?
There’s no such thing as brother-brother privilege. Fruman’s brother will have to testify against him, or he’ll be arrested himself for contempt of court. If Fruman’s brother testifies that he’s guilty, then a conviction will be almost a given, so this would seem to significantly increase the odds that Fruman himself ends up cutting a cooperating plea deal instead of going to trial. To get a plea deal from the SDNY, Fruman would have to flip on everyone involved. This would leave Parnas with little choice but to flip, which would give the Feds two cooperating witnesses against Rudy.
No wonder reports surfaced in the media this week that, after having previously asserted that he didn’t need a lawyer representing him, Rudy Giuliani is now actively looking for one. Rudy is in deep trouble here. Even if he’s counting on a Trump pardon to magically save him on federal charges, one would expect him to be immediately hit with parallel state charges.
