Things are getting UGLY in the Republican House tonight
It’s bad enough for House Republicans that Rep. Ken Buck officially retired today, even as Rep. Mike Gallagher announced his retirement today, and Rep. Kay Granger quit her committee chair position. Now that House Republicans have caved once again on the budget, they’re looking to take out their frustrations on each other.
Marjorie Taylor Greene made a motion to vacate the Speaker position, and slammed “Speaker” Mike Johnson accordingly:
Speaker Johnson violated our rules and forced us to vote for a bill funding open borders, abortion, and trans ideology for our kids.
Republican voters deserve a leader who will stand up, not roll over to Chuck Schumer. It's time to select a new Speaker of the House. pic.twitter.com/0tvb4X5xU2

Now we wait to see how House Republicans align themselves on the motion to vacate. At the time Kevin McCarthy’s job was on the line, he could only afford to lose five Republican votes. Now that Mike Johnson’s job is on the line, he can only afford to lose one or two Republican votes. In other words Johnson is in real trouble.
On the other hand, House Republicans know that if they oust Mike Johnson, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to elect anyone else as Speaker. So will they end up going there? We’ll see. But it’s getting awfully ugly for them tonight, and it could get even uglier for them as the weekend progresses.
