Things are falling apart for Donald Trump in real time

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

“President” Donald Trump really thinks he is a dictator. His latest tweet shows just how insane he is: “With Universal Mail-in Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRADULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” There is so much wrong with Trump’s tweet.

Trump said mail-in voting will be “a great embarrassment to the USA.” Is he kidding? He has already embarrassed the U.S. more than we can ever possibly be embarrassed. He also thinks we should wait “until people can securely and safely vote.” Sure, he does. We have no idea when or if coronavirus will clear. Responding to Trump’s ridiculous tweet, NPR confirmed that Trump does not hold the power to move an election date. This law has been in effect since 1845, but only someone arrogant and crazy would even suggest such a thing. Not only has the law been in effect for 175 years, it would require an agreement between the House and Senate to change it if they were even inclined to entertain such a ridiculous idea.

It is amazing how this man has the gall to think he can overturn laws. He has always had a twisted view of the presidency, but this goes beyond anything he has said to date. Even though everything about Donald Trump is illogical, there is some logical reasoning behind this most recent meltdown.

NPR pointed to the timing of Trump’s insane tweet, which came 15 minutes after news of the worst quarterly economic performance in U.S. history. According to Al Jazeera, the U.S. entered a recession in February with a 5% drop from the year before. The pandemic created worldwide lockdowns, bringing the economy to a complete halt, and Republicans — especially Trump — pushed to reopen. While reopening did create a brief upswing, it also created an increase in cases, which put us right back at square one. Now, our economy has dropped 32.9% between April and June, and it shows no signs of coming back anytime soon. Because Trump has always considered the economy as his failsafe, he knows he now has literally nothing.

Knowing Trump, he also likely wanted to distract from Congressman John Lewis’ life celebration, which television covered for hours. Barack Obama used his powerful speaking skills to highlight what is wrong in our country, and both President George Bush and President Bill Clinton spoke. Jimmy Carter sent an intermediary with a heartfelt letter, which was read by Pastor Raphael Warnock. We were reminded, once again, what a decent president is like, and it probably drove Trump crazy.

Because he has nothing and former presidents spent the day upstaging him, Trump’s feeble little brain is likely about to explode. He should spend his days packing and worrying about how he is going to stay out of jail next year instead of tweeting his craziness. The good news is the more he tweets, the more he alienates voters.
