These next ten days are for all the marbles

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For all the buzz right now about the November 2024 election, there has been alarmingly little coverage of a 2024 election that’s taking place in just ten days. Perhaps that’s because while the election is being held to replace the headline-friendly George Santos, neither candidate in the race is making national headlines. But it’s still a hugely important race, and I’m concerned that it’s not getting nearly enough attention.

It’s not just that a House seat is on the line in a district that could go either way. It’s that with the House Republican majority continuing to dwindle due to resignations and expulsions, this special election could end up determining who holds the majority as the year goes on. If the Democrats flip Santos’ seat, and then one or two more House Republicans are forced out due to scandal, we could suddenly be looking at Speaker Hakeem Jeffries for the rest of 2024.

Even if that doesn’t happen, this special election could end up being crucial in determining which party has the House majority when we go into 2025. There’s an incumbency advantage in House races. So whoever wins this special election in February, that person will become the favorite to win reelection in November.

In other words, if we spend the next ten days making a serious effort to win this special election, it’ll put the Democrats in a better position both now and in November. The Democratic candidate is Tom Suozzi. With just ten days to go, now is the time to sign up for an online volunteer shift or to make a small last minute donation for a final TV ad buy. You can find Tom Suozzi’s official campaign website here.
