The GOP spent decades determined to overturn Roe v. Wade, only for it to blow up in their faces for them politically when it finally happened. To be sure, the fallout has been catastrophic from any objective standpoint, as statewide bans are now being fully realized – leading to things like the worst maternal mortality rate in a developed country.

Even beyond what it means for abortion access, the Dobbs ruling has resulted in the banning of access to IVF treatments. This makes a bad political situation much worse – as a number of conservatives rely on the availability of these treatments and Republican lawmakers don’t have an easy way out – claiming to be the pro-life, anti-abortion party while somehow proving that they don’t agree with this particular part of the Dobbs ruling.

The GOP is all rhetoric, however. For people who claim to not know much about Project 2025 or to believe in the easy access to IVF treatments, they haven’t really done much to convince us otherwise – and that held true on Tuesday when Chuck Schumer once again held a floor vote on an IVF protections bill and the bill was blocked out of committee by Senate Republicans.Once again, the GOP has said who they are on this particular issue, while hoping we don’t remember how they voted. This is why we need to vote to keep the Senate in Democratic hands. Let’s not just deliver Kamala Harris a win on Nov 5 – let’s give her a decisive one – within five points (some polls already show her gaining more than that) – and we can keep the US Senate.
