There’s never been anything like this
We’re coming off a ten day stretch in which Donald Trump got shot at, Joe Biden exited the race, and Kamala Harris became the nominee. There has never been a stretch like that in American politics. But in the ten days since, we’ve seen an arguably even more surreal sea change.
Over the past ten days we’ve watched Kamala Harris go from being a brand new candidate in the race, to now being the frontrunner (based on the increasing number of polls now showing her ahead of Trump). We’ve also seen an unprecedented groundswell on the activist front. Black women held a massive fundraising call for Harris. Then Black men held their own. Then white women. And now the “white dudes for Harris” has brought in $4 million, which is remarkable given that white men are traditionally the demographic that leans most Republican.
It’s not just that Kamala Harris is an inspiring candidate who’s swept the nation by entering a race that so many people had been unexcited about. And it’s not just that her opponent is an unhinged convicted felon who’s trying to install a dictatorship. It’s both. We’re not just running against Trump anymore. We’re running for what Kamala represents: hope, values, representation, and vitality.
The kicker is that all this has happened in just the past ten days. We still have nearly a hundred days to go until the election. The Kamala Harris momentum is still just getting underway. It’ll get even more massive. And yet a hundred days is a long time. There will surely be even more twists and turns as this election cycle goes on. We have to be ready for it. We have to keep focused. We have to keep putting in the work. But if these past ten days have been any indication, we’re strongly on the right track.
