When historians look back on Donald Trump’s illegitimate and doomed-from-the-start presidency, they just might ultimately point to May 24th, 2018 as the point of no return. That’s the day in which Trump decided to cancel his meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un, a meeting which Trump desperately needed. Now he’s basically throwing a roll of duct tape at the shattered pieces of the summit and yelling “There, I fixed it!”

We still don’t know for sure if Donald Trump canceled the summit because he thought Kim was about to cancel it, or because he mistakenly thought that canceling it would give him more negotiating leverage, or because he just threw an egomaniacal tantrum and couldn’t help himself. In any case, after the cancelation immediately brought widespread scorn, Trump suddenly tweeted that the summit might be back on. Then one of his own officials admitted to reporters that such a thing wasn’t realistic. Then Trump claimed that official didn’t exist.

Now Trump is pulling out all the stops to try to find a way to make this mythical North Korea summit happen after all. This morning he posted this tweet: “We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!”

That’s right, Donald Trump is actually going so far as to pretend that his letter canceling the summit has somehow given him the upper hand. Or maybe he even believes it. North Korea is, of course, merely setting Trump up to be humiliated again. Kim is a psychopath who hates Trump and is playing him for, well, a dotard.
