The way we were is not the way we will be
During this most festive time of the year, our presidents historically send well wishes and hope for the future. At least they used to. While President Joe Biden posted a Christmas message of “kindness and compassion,” Trump was, well Trump. You can hear President Biden’s message on YouTube
Unlike President Biden, Donald Trump’s Christmas message was one of hate, one that keeps the proverbial pot stirring. Instead of wishing everyone well, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Merry Christmas to the Radical Left Lunatics, who are constantly trying to obstruct our Court System and our Elections.” Trump then went on to post other negativity, and he praised his (lunatic) cabinet picks, his desire to purchase Greenland, and complaints about fees paid for passing through the Panama Canal. Is this man ever happy about anything? According to Rolling Stone, Trump is also keeping tabs on which corporations haven’t donated to his inauguration. As is typical for Trump, he is using his promise of tariffs to extort money from corporations who believe they will be spared because of Trump’s promise to grant exceptions to some companies. Rolling Stone also reported that 11 of the companies that have donated pledged to have nothing to do with Trump after the January 6 insurrection. Well, that didn’t last long. Saving their companies money in the long run is far more important to them than our democracy.
Retribution and revenge are the way of Donald Trump. He’s using his tariffs to bribe companies into paying for his inauguration, and he’ll then turn around and brag about how many companies contributed and how much they gave. And it’s not only tariffs; Rolling Stone reported that those who give over $1 million will be entitled to special “perks” for the inauguration. As hard as Republicans tried to find criminal activity on the part of President Biden, they were left with nothing. Now, they will have a known criminal in the White House, and they couldn’t be happier. The way we were will not be the way we’ll be for the next four years.
