The water is at Donald Trump’s doorstep
All along I’ve predicted that Donald Trump would lose reelection, then end up criminally indicted, and end up in prison. Along the way I’ve taken some heat for this, because it didn’t happen instantly (even though I never said it would), and because some defeatists have simply decided that it’ll never happen no matter what.
But here’s the thing. We all know that the DOJ has spent all this time building multiple complex criminal cases against Donald Trump, because even the most secretive of probes start spilling out into public view once they reach a certain point. And it’s becoming fairly obvious that Attorney General Merrick Garland has brought in Special Counsel Jack Smith to oversee things because Trump is potentially facing too many criminal charges.
That’s right, Smith is there to play traffic cop. He has to make sure the right charges are brought, in the right order. Each DOJ criminal probe against Trump has always had its own person in charge. But now we know that there are at least three such bosses, perhaps more, and how are they supposed to decide who gets to indict Trump in what order?
In other words, if there were only one DOJ criminal probe into Trump, Garland would simply make a decision on those charges, and a traffic cop like Smith wouldn’t be needed. Smith’s appointment is all about just how many kinds of federal criminal trouble Trump is facing.
To that end, it’s not surprising to see someone like Trump biographer Tim O’Brien saying that Trump knows he’s facing serious consequences for the first time in his life, and that Trump may only be running this 2024 campaign in order to pretend he’s not in trouble. What’s a bit more surprising is that MSNBC allowed O’Brien to go on the air and say it.
Just a month ago, the mainstream media still seemed intent on portraying Donald Trump’s 2024 “campaign” as a real thing so it could milk it for ratings. But the water level around Trump is now rising so quickly, even the media seems to be starting to acknowledge that Trump’s prospects for 2024 involve the Big House, not the White House.
