The #TrumpMeltdown continues as Donald Trump threatens to shut down Twitter entirely

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $2097 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

Even though Twitter is still declining to do anything about Donald Trump’s ongoing false accusations of murder against Joe Scarborough, Twitter did finally place a meek warning label on Trump’s false tweets about voting by mail. This minor gesture has sent Trump into a rage, and at this point he’s threatening to somehow shut down Twitter entirely.

Trump posted this bizarre meltdown today: “Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen. We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can’t let a more sophisticated version of that happen again.”

Wait, what? Trump is now threatening to use the power of the presidency to “close down” Twitter and other social networks. Fortunately for everyone involved, he can’t actually pull that off, both because he doesn’t have the power, and because he’s too clueless to figure out how to do it anyway.

But this is a remarkable new development in Trump’s ongoing unraveling. The major social networks helped put Trump in office in 2016, with Twitter allowing him to tweet whatever false information he wanted, and Facebook running dishonest ads funded by foreign money. Now that both social networks are partially trying to clean up their act, Trump is threatening them because they’re not willing to fully do his bidding this time around. Trump is losing allies by the minute, and he’s losing what’s left of his marbles. No wonder #TrumpMeltdown is trending.
