The Trump curse

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There was a time when I was a member of multiple book clubs at the same time. And each month, we’d pick a new book to read and discuss. Only one month was different. This is because multiple book clubs chose the same book. Everyone wanted to talk about it. This is the only time it’s happened. This book was a best seller. It had been written, with tender nuance, by a man from Ohio named JD Vance.

Vance grew up in poverty, and this book was about how he overcame the challenges and struggles that come along with such an upbringing. Oh, how America fell in love with him! And I will freely admit this book “Hillbilly Elegy” was very compelling. But it was an act, a trick. America was hoodwinked.

Vance wanted to run for office. So he cheerfully turned his back on his roots. He became trumpyer than Trump himself, insulting the readers of his book, laughing at them, calling women names, and, in general, acting like an asshole.

You see, Vance wanted that senate seat. And he got it — with a little help from Donald, Trump whom he’d previously excoriated. It is yet another example of someone who is ruined by the trump curse.

But Vance is not yet finished. Once again, he’s coming to the rescue of his mentor. Because Vance, appearing infuriated, announced he would hold the Justice Department nominees hostage as a protest over Trump having been indicated.

Vance, who is likely already thinking of his reelection, does not appear to care if Trump broke the law. He does not appear to care if peoples’ lives were put in danger, if nuclear secrets were shared. Vance doesn’t give a damn about that because Vance cares about one thing, and that is Vance.

I suppose Vance saw how loved he became when he started singing Trump’s praises, and he likely wants to continue the love fest. It’s a crying shame. One would not recognize THIS Vance in the pages of Hillbilly Elegy. But, then again, he has shown himself to be a con artist, and he’s a lot better at it than Donald Trump.
