The “Trump 2024” farce just took a turn for the absurd

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump has reportedly ruled out Mike Pence as his 2024 running mate. Makes sense. When you’re just pretending you’re going to run so you can pocket the quasi-campaign donations, and you’re not actually going to run for anything, you can make up any imaginary running mate you want.

The shame of it is that the entire mainstream media (left, right, and center, each with different spins on it) is going along with Trump’s pretend 2024 campaign as if it were real. It’s a ratings goldmine. His base loves hearing it, and it scares everyone else into tuning in.

The media knows damn well that Trump isn’t going to be running for anything. His rare public appearances these days reveal that his mind is mostly gone and his health is very poor. His poll numbers, even among Republican voters, are weak relative to his name recognition. He is, obviously, finished.

But hey, it’s a ratings gold mine, so the media keeps playing along with it. Trump (or whoever is running his show these days) makes a point of playing along with it, making headline grabbing “announcements” such as Pence not being his 2024 running mate. Well no kidding. You don’t need a running mate when you’re not running.

The media thinks this game is harmless because they know Trump won’t be a candidate in 2024 anyway. But it’s still disinformation. And much of the media takes this false narrative even further by portraying Joe Biden as less successful and less popular than he is (“his approval rating is in the low thirties!” when you can look up the polling averages and see he’s in the forties), in order to hype Trump’s 2024 prospects.

Moreover, the media’s constant hyping of Trump’s imaginary comeback means the actual 2024 Republican candidates won’t get vetted at all. One of them will suddenly be the nominee, without any of their scandals having been properly investigated or exposed. That’s the real danger in this ongoing farce that Trump and the media, each for different underhanded reasons, are carrying on with.
