The Trojan Horse
The story of the Trojan horse is legendary. That innocent-looking wooden horse was, of course, used by the Greeks to gain entry into the city of Troy. It was a deadly gift that was accepted — to the detriment of the citizens of Troy.
Many books have been written about it. Many films have been made. The first scenes of that horse never fail to send shivers down my spine. And we have our own Trojan horse, now, don’t we? We have our own menacing gift that made it into America’s foundation and nearly destroyed it. That is Trumpism.
And these days, Trumpism encompasses almost the whole of the republican party. It was, of course, not our faulty anymore than it was the fault of the innocent and jubilant people of Troy. They did not ask for what they received. Neither did we. But we got the nightmare of the Trojan Trumpism horse. And we have been dealing with it for years. And we are winning.
That is what is so important to see. This is not over yet. But in terms of where we are versus where we WERE –, we are definitely winning. The insurrectionists are getting what’s coming to them. Unlike the Greeks, the American traitors did not succeed. Most were caught and rounded up. And they are facing the consequences.
Trump is no longer in power. AG Garland, who was the recipient of venom by many for a very long time — proved his value. The DOJ is continuing with its criminal investigation into Trump.
And as we go forward into the midterms, it is important we be on guard for other Trojan horses the GOP will try to unleash on us. The GOP is fragmented, true. But they do want to win in November. We have the ability to say no to Republicans bearing gifts.
We can send the gifts back to where they came from — and tell the gift-bearers to leave us alone. If you are signed up for one phone shift — think about doing two or three. If you are sending 100 postcards — think about sending 300. It’s all in the numbers. This race will come down to turnout. The best way to be rid of fake Republicans bearing fake gifts is to get out the vote — for ourselves and for America.
