The Supreme Court just shockingly upended the House 2024 races in a way that helps the Democrats

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It says something that when this Supreme Court occasionally makes a correct decision, it comes as a shock. That happened today when the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 ruling striking down the racially motivated gerrymandering that has long screwed Black voters in the South out of having proper representation in the House. We can question the Supreme Court’s motivation for this ruling, but it’s undeniably a huge win for us – which means we have to seize upon it.

The impact of this ruling, and the redrawn House maps that’ll follow, will be two fold. First, some long-held House Republican seats will all but automatically become Democratic seats in 2024, due to the complete redrawing of those districts. Black voters will finally get their say, and they tend to overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Second, some other long-held House Republican seats will now become competitive “toss up” races where either party could win.

As always, those toss up races will require a lot of work to win. When you go into a race with 50-50 odds, you can’t rely on luck to win; you have to donate and volunteer and retweet the Democratic candidates so they have the edge. These are the kinds of races where even minimal participation on your part – even if you don’t live in that part of the country – can make the difference between the Democrat winning by one point or losing by one point. After all, toss up races always tend to come down to the wire.

So today’s ruling has the dual impact of handing us much greater odds of winning the House majority in 2024, and also handing us more work to do. After all, more opportunities always require more work. But this is undeniably great news, and huge news.

It’ll take a minute for the impact of today’s ruling to crystallize into actual target races and such. But once we have a sense of which House races in which newly drawn districts are going to be the most competitive, we’re going to be all over promoting those races. Stay tuned: Palmer Report 2024
