The sun also rises

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There are few things that are 100 percent guaranteed. Some people say the only things that are definitive are death and taxes. But there are more. There is the sunrise, for one. Every morning, the sun rises for millions. Then morning begins, and people go about their lives.

For democratic activists, the rising of the sun signals another day of activism, another day of fighting for all things good and pure for America. Yes, we stand on our Democratic mountain, and for some of us, the fight for change and human decency is never-ending.

But what about Republican voters? They have their own mountain on which they stand. The sun rises for them too. We just see it very differently from them. It is difficult these days as our country is so sharply divided. But I believe our sun shines brighter, more forcefully, and more golden.

That’s because we have something Republicans cannot begin to comprehend. We have humility. Humility makes our sun fierier. And we are going to have to be fiery as 2024 draws closer. I do not want people to take anything for granted. Yes, we have the wind at our backs. We have the abortion issue and many more issues.

But I see some on social media relaxing. TAKING FOR GRANTED, we will win. This fills me with discontent. We can win, yes, but only if we do the work. I’m talking about doubling, tripling, and QUINTUPLING what we did last time.

We have to. Because some voters are easy to scare, to frighten. Some voters are apathetic and don’t come out. Their sun is tired, and they don’t really care about voting.

And Republicans have an angry sun that encourages THEM to work hard. For example, in North Carolina, many Republicans are door-knocking. We will need to knock on MORE doors, make MORE phone calls and talk to more voters.

The election results can be ours, but only if we heed the sun’s calls to activism. And only if we never take our eyes off our opponents, remembering they too have a sun that rises and it wants a very different country than we do.
