The stupid, it burns

I remember back in Covid times. I remember the howling and taunting laughter as so many MAGA supporters joyously threw their COVID masks into the fire pit. They tossed them aside as easily as throwing scraps of paper into a wastepaper basket.
And then I think of how education has been mocked, how SCIENCE has been mocked, how knowledge and intellectualism have been demonized, and that leaves me with only one conclusion. The MAGA cult is trying to make America stupid again. There was a time when America was Stupid – ignorant as the day is long, and now it would seem MAGA is eagerly sprinting over each other, trying to get back to those lazy days of ignorance.
Case in point: Texas State Rep Nate Schatzline (Republican, of course) is celebrating. He’s celebrating because his children’s school has been deemed one of the least vaccinated schools in the state. No, this is not a joke. It is real; the stupidity is absolute.
On Instagram, he spoke of his excitement that the school has received this designation. He called it: “medical freedom.” It just doesn’t end. The stupidity doesn’t end. It burns. It singes the skin like wild orange flames of stupidity. This is what we need to save America from — the stupid. The flame of stupidity that burns with brute force, the stuff of cavemen in prehistoric times at their most burningly primitive.
“I’ve got word that my child’s school has been ranked the #1 most unvaccinated school in Texas, and I’m upset. That we haven’t celebrated sooner.” You know, once someone knowingly walks into the flames, it’s a heck of a trial and tribulation to pull them back OUT of them.
I’ve long since given up on the MAGA cult. But they’re not who I worry about. I worry about the ones not yet down the rabbit hole, the ones who may someday natively turn on a GOP podcast and hear the vomit-inducing sounds of a Megyn Kelly or a Joe Rogan and then make their trip toward the stupid — and like so many did before them, get burned.
